Tour 1 – Day 2
After rain in the night we got up to cloud but no rain PHEW!! Heading into the Landmannalaugar region, then through to a campsite with a stunning waterfall above it. Stunning scenary and volcanic craters -Ljotipollur ugly puddle, as well as many many water crossings.
We headed to the docks to meet Andrew and the first group stopping to look at the viking ship on the way. Once we were altogether we headed out of Reykjavik towards Hveragerdi picking up cooking gas along the way. Within Hveragerdi we stop at a Bakery amazing, there we highlight the maps with the route for the day, as well as have a shaking experience in the earthquake experience. Shopping takes plce food + goodies needed for 3 days. Off to the campsite at Arnes, tomorrow we head into the interior. After putting the tents up we head out to see some sights. Haifoss (High Falls) a waterfall that drops 122m and next to it is a waterfall called granni. We drop into an oasis Gjain, before visiting the last waterfall of the day Hjalparfoss.
started the day at 3am, heading to Luton departures catching the 3:50 bus from the holiday inn express. Flight left on time and we arrived in Iceland at 7:55 local time. Getting the flybus from Keflavik to the BSI bus station then in a taxi t the Eimskip office where the fun began. Our last tour at the end of 2018 had problems with customs getting the vehicles and ended up waiting 5 hours, this year only took 4 hours and 45 minutes.
After a couple of hours Val and Dawn headed into Reykjavik to see the sights. Taxi ti Harpa, looking at the spectacular building, then on to the main street and tourist information for a couple of bits.
We had an amazing fish dinner then on to the Hallgrimskirkja a stunning church designed to resemble the shape of basalt columns.
From there we headed to the Phallalogical Museum which had some eye watering exhibits.
We then started heading towards the hotel, but saw the Perlam and decided to go for a visit, wonderful does not do this justice, there is a Planetarium which shows the northern lights but also across the universe, there is a museum that is far far more than a museum, this is definitely placed within the 21st century with tasteful technology to enhance the experience. There is an amazing icecave experience and exhibit a must when in iceland. Also there are the panaramic views across Reykjavik. All in all a good day shame about the truck taking so long to clear.
The packed vehicle has arrived in Iceland at 8pm this evening (Sunday). All ready for the off we arrive in Iceland on Thursday cannot wait.
With our 4×4 Iceland adventures about to begin just preparing for our adventure, this is making sure we have a raised air in-take and under body protection, and all terrain tyres nothing more than this is required.
The daily blog will start on the first day of tour 1 – which is the 12th of July – can’t wait !!!
