Sad day as it is the Last day – cars to dock today 🙁 but not without visiting pingvellir national park this morning. The weather looks like sun and the temperature is currently at 8am 8.9 degrees it is going to be a lovely day.
2 of our team have gone diving – bit cold in the water for me.
I think the vehicles all need a wash before taking them to the docks.
Heading back to civilisation today via Kerlingarfjoll the beautiful geothermal mountain area. We arrive finally at Gullfoss to masses of people a bit of a shock after such a quiet time. Our destination is Geysir where we can walk around in the evening when all of the buses have gone back.
The day has started cloudy but promises sun. First stop Grjotagja the large crack in the earth with geothermal pool within, followed by a trip to Namaskard and the Hverarond mud pools. Our plan was then to go the Krafla crater followed by Leirhnjukur but when we got to Krafla we were in the cloud and visibility plus rain was the order of the day so after looking at the crater we decided in a plan B yet more waterfalls some more remote ones. The sky does seem to be clearing so hopefully a more pleasant alternative.
Once Matt comes back from the airport we have an interesting off Tarmac route to try.
The alternatives were a winner, sun came out and a glorious time had by all.
The track later in the day proved a little more interesting, especially having to recover one of our own convoy, using tandam defenders one just couldn’t move the toyota, but it worked.
Rain greets us as we wake, very wet start to the day, wet tent to pack away. Heading East we have a beautiful mountain trail, then the eastern fjords and a mountain pass. As we start the mountain trail the rain has stopped and there are glimpses of the sun, we have some interesting water crossings (video to follow) and some steep climbs.
