DAY 14 – BESPOKE — DAY 8 – FERRY 13TH AUGUST 2015

The weather started so promising at Geysir, but soon changed when we got to Pingvellir and the rain came down horizontal and windy.

Today is all about tectonic plates, Pingvellir is this mornings tour where the eurasian plate and the north american plate are moving apart 2cm per year (mid-atlantic ridge).  Pingvellir was also the place for the first parliament in year 930.  Lunch at the bakery then shopping for food for a couple of days as we are back into the interior tomorrow.  Relaxing afternoon with an earthquake experience and our bespoke team back to the airport.  Steak house in the evening.

DAY 13 – BESPOKE — DAY 7 – FERRY 12TH AUGUST 2015

Storm forecast for this evening –  should be interesting at least we will be a Geysir not in the interior.  We head from Kerlingarfjoll up to the geothermal area,  then on to beautiful line of craters and a waterfall before braving all the people within the golden circle starting with Gullfoss.  The rain is now coming down.

DAY 11 – BESPOKE — DAY 5 – FERRY 10TH AUGUST 2015

Lovely relaxing morning going around Akureyri before we head back into the interior.  Beautiful track through a glaciated valley to Laugarfell our destination for the evening.  Laugarfell has a geothermal pool – there is a story relating to the pool:

Porunn daughter of Jon Arason, Iceland’s last catholic bishop, took her family there in the 15th Century during the time of the black death and made the pool with her own hands.

DAY 10 – BESPOKE — DAY 4 – FERRY 9TH AUGUST 2015

Clear dry morning, whale watching booked for 1:30pm so Godafoss is the place to visit before heading towards Akureyri.  Recently I have found that whale watching from Akureyri offers the best whale sighting opportunities rather than the promoted Husavik.  Last time we went to Husavik there were about 8 whale watching boats around the same area not a pleasant sight.

First stop pseudo craters formed by steam explosions when the lava meets the water.  Then  on to Godafoss the waterfall of the gods.
