An eventful day, last night the Range Rover Classic managed to loose a brake pad and all of it’s brake fluid, so today has been sourcing replacements.
One of our group has now left after a trip to Pingvellir – their vehicle was then taken to the docks and them to the hotel 🙁
After our trip to Pingvellir we then headed to Mosfellsbaer amazing bakery then into Reykjavik for the afternoon.
A second night at Geysir which I must say is lovely.
What a difference a day makes last night the rain was a little constant, but this morning we have sunshine and cloud.
Driving through the interior to Geysir via kerlingarfjoll where it is tee-shirt and short weather getting sun burnt whilst typing this.
Late start.to allow people to look around Akureyri the sun is shining although cloudy and warm.
Headed into the interior the prospect is rain and the actual outcome is ☔, we arrive at Hveravellir to rain and 5 degrees lovely. Tents up in the ☔ but there is a cafe to get warm. Dinner is underway under the foxwing all is good.
Been around the geothermal area bitterly cold as there is a strong wind. However it is still brilliant.
Waterfalls and whale watching trip in Akureyri (Ambassador)- very successful 100% sighting in all the times we have been.
Southern F910 – to Laugarfell
A very low cloud but dry start as we had put the tents us in light rain as soon as we finished putting the tents up it stopped. There were a couple of showers during the night but all was good in the morning.
As we got nearer the F910 the weather improved and the dash across the sand flats was interesting.
Wake to cloud but dry and cool. Myvatn through to interior but first we visit Namaskard & Hverarond mud pools & Grotagja.
Visit some craters on our way to the interior
then a none landrover shock broke – thankfully George has a spare with him so a running repair at the evening camp.
Waking to cloudy but no rain although it did rain in the night.
Looking across the area to Askja we made a conscious decision not to head to Askja as there was very low cloud and lots and lots of rain. Instead we went for a hunt for a canyon waterfall before heading towards Myvatn. At Myvatn we have the blue Myvatn baths & pizza after the choice of rain (which was still hanging over Askja as we passed the turning where we joined the F88 at 3pm) or Myvatn the choice was unanimous.
Arrived in Myvatn sunshine and cloud and the very high northern light forecast, although it maybe cloudy here.
Visit the ice caves first, all alone.
Lovely interesting drive to the canyon
we found the canyon but not the waterfall – better luck next time.
Cloudy start picking up 3 vehicles from the ferry, it is a little cooler than of late but dry.
We go to our first stop the remote village where we meet a lovely little arctic fox cub.
then we head into the interior to Kverkfjoll
Eastern Fjords, fishing villages, and mountain routes
care needed when taking selfies
gillimot feeding her baby
washing and drying line needed
Glacier day today – svinafell and jokulsarlon with a final stop off at hoffellsjokull
